Cardless is a fintech startup. Our mission is to make consumer credit more accessible, useful, and engaging, and we do that by partnering with brands to help them launch financial products.

We're headquartered in San Francisco, but we're building a remote-friendly team across the continental US. We were founded in 2019, and we last raised a $40M Series B in 2021. Our investors include top VCs like Activant, Accomplice, and Greycroft; founders from successful startups like Plaid, SeatGeek, and FiveStars; and executives from major sports teams like the Boston Celtics and Phoenix Suns.

The Role

Cardless is hiring for a Director of Finance to lead, structure and scale finance initiatives across the company including FP&A, accounting, financial operations, and more. This leadership position is instrumental in building the policies and procedures from the ground up, scaling the business and maintain the company’s financial health as well as build a team of high-performing individuals on the finance team.


The Responsibilities

  • Serve as a mentor and leader to current finance team and help scaling the Finance function across all verticals (Strategic Finance, accounting and FinOps)
  • Create scalable processes for handling both internal and external financial and operational matters
  • Develop a proactive approach in driving a financial decision, help developing KPIs and deliver insights that inform key decisions impacting growth, staffing, investment, and profitability (e.g., unit economics)
  • Provide financial insights and advise the executive and leadership teams and drive initiative
  • Drive building financial infrastructure, tools and SOPs to create best in class accounting and financial reporting structures and help the company achieve its strategic and operational goals.
  • Develop, implement and monitor accounting policies, processes and procedures and ensure compliance across business units. Spearhead Cardless first annual audit.


The Requirements

  • A minimum of 10+ years experience leading and building the financial function of a fast-growing company, ideally as an early member of a startup or fintech environment
  • Proven experience managing a high-performing finance team and a strong collaborator of cross-functional teams
  • Sound understanding of Capital Market transactions (ABS) reporting and forecasting
  • Highly analytical and data-driven
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Excellent core finance and accounting skills; a must CPA and/or MBA or CFA is plus



We're headquartered in San Francisco, CA, with a beautiful office in the Mission District (near Dolores Park). We welcome employees who want to work from this office; we offer additional benefits to those who do (see below), and relocation assistance to those who'd like to.

We're also hiring remotely across most of the continental US (excluding AK, CO, and HI) for most roles. We work hard to create a first-class, remote-friendly environment, with an additional benefit for remote employees, too (see below).

We regularly bring our team together for offsites & trips, about every 2 months, both for fun and for work. We cover all travel & lodging in these cases.
