JJ grew up in Cape Town and started his career at Deloitte, working across South Africa and parts of the United States. He transitioned into the buy-side and worked as part of the investment team of a global equity fund largely covering the fintech space, where most of his expertise lies today at Activant.

He is a passionate surfer, squash player, and wine enthusiast.
